Our Case Study for a Bespoke Introduction to Combined Cycle Plant Operators Course Including Control and Instrumentation

Trainer: Phil Crutchley

Location: Uniper City Plant, Rotterdam.

Course: Introduction to Combined Cycle Gas Turbine including Controls and Instrumentation (C & I).

Delivery date: 18th November 2024

The customer, Uniper City Plant, presented a challenge requiring specialised training in the operation and management of Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) systems. They sought a detailed program that would provide their team with the foundational knowledge of the plant necessary to advance to the CCGT Part 1 and Part 2 courses.

The challenges presented:

The customer's primary challenge involved the creation of a custom training program tailored to the distinct operational characteristics of their power generation facility. They required specialised attention on the balance of plant in the CCGT configuration, as well as detailed knowledge of Controls and Instrumentation. Their aim was to find a training solution that would cater specifically to their unique context and operational needs.

Our solution:

Our Solution was to craft a tailored training experience. We initiated in-depth conversations with site leaders in late June. Once we understood their needs, we worked together to create a personalised 5-day training program. By September, we had completed the course content.

Furthermore, we arranged with the trainer and Uniper City Plant to choose an appropriate date for the training. Phil Crutchley went to Rotterdam to deliver the course on 18th November 2024, providing a practical and engaging learning experience.

The benefits included:

Relevance: The training was tailored to meet the operational requirements of Uniper City Plant, which improved the learning experience.

Expertise: The participants acquired knowledge from a trainer who had experience and a deep understanding of CCGT systems.

Flexibility: The design of the program accommodated modifications in response to continuous feedback, guaranteeing comprehensive coverage of all essential subjects.

And complete result.

The training program was effectively conducted on the 18th of November 2024, providing the Uniper City Plant team with essential knowledge and skills. The participants expressed a heightened sense of confidence in their comprehension of CCGT operations and controls, which contributed to an enhancement of their operational understanding. This initiative not only addressed immediate requirements but also established a foundation for the forthcoming operational courses CCGT Part 1 and Part 2, reflecting our dedication to offering high-quality, tailored training solutions.

This case study underscores our initiative-taking stance on training and our commitment to fulfilling the unique needs of our clientele in the power generation industry.
